This tall structure will be installed at the beginning of a path to a backyard garden, serving as a gateway to a space honoring a loved one. The person’s name, along with the word garden, is written in runes, a German language. Steel vines wrap around all four sides of the structure from top to bottom. Each was plasma cut, hammered, and welded one by one. They represent time passing and the integration of nature overtaking a conservative form.
I loved creating the top of this sculpture because of the challenge of imitating real vines with leaves, dangling them over and around the arch formed by the two words, without hiding them.
